BosbaPANH: Next Events !

I am invited by Sister Malen to join the Christmas Celebrations of the Don Bosco Technical School in Teuk Tla this Wednesday. Sister Malen likes music (like all the Philippinos!) so she attended my last concert with more than 30 sisters from the school. I am very proud to join the celebration and to sing Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus with them. I have actually never attended a Christmas celebration though Dad planned a couple of times for us to go on the eve of 24th to the Catholic Church established by the French missionaries in the 19th century. I am very curious to go to Don Bosco school, Dad hired some of their graduates to work with him and he found them sincere and honest. I think they teach very high moral values and have strict discipline. The school help the poor, especially from the provinces. They train in secretariat, repairing motorcycles, electronic equipment but also to work in hotels, cooking etc.

Don Bosco (1815 –1888), was an Italian Catholic priest and educator, who employed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment. He placed his works under the protection of Francis de Sales, and created the Salesian Society. That's why Sister Malen is a Salesian sister.

Don Bosco established a network of education centres to carry on his work. When he died in 1888, there were more than 250 schools around the world. I don't know now how many there are, certainly a lot. In recognition of his work with disadvantaged youth, he was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1934. I admire Sister Malen, Sister Florence and so many others, they are dedicated, gentle and are working in Cambodia for more than 10 years already. That's is a long long time away from their country.

The concert goes on air in Cambodia on Monday 2 November 2009 at 9 am (just before the boat racing starts so you can't miss that if you are in the country!).
